From Baseload to Cycling
Thanks to implementation of innovative Flex-Power™ Services, the German electricity provider Kraftwerke Mainz-Wiesbaden is now able to respond to changing market demands and to deliver power quickly and flexibly when it is needed. This involved making various optimizations, especially in the context of the startup process. After an overnight downtime the power plant starts up with highly efficient "Hot Start on the Fly" and achieves very precisely start-up times of less than 30 minutes. Not only that: steam from the nearby waste incineration plant can be fed into the steam cycle to keep it warm during downtimes, significantly improving run-up performance from cold and warm standby after longer standstills. Further measures for enhancing the flexibility of power plant operation are already in planning.
